The NBA Trade Deadline is going to be the main discussion of the NBA for the next two months. And the first major deal has been agreed.
The Golden State Warriors agreed a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, sending guard De’Anthony Melton, Reece Beekman and three second-round picks in exchange for guard Dennis Schroder and a 2025 second-round pick.
This is a deal where the Warriors looked to capitalize on the talent on their team. This also raises their championship hopes this upcoming season.

Warriors expectations for Dennis Schroder
At 31 years old, Schroder is playing the best ball he has played since the 2019-2020 NBA Season when he was with the Oklahoma State Thunder.
Schroder will be playing for his eighth NBA team since entering the league in 2013. Schroder was having a stellar individual season for the Nets, who are currently in 10th place in the East.
He averaged 18.4 points per game shooting a field-goals percentage of 45.2% and a three-point shooting percentage of 38.7% as well as 3.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 23 starts.
The Nets needed to get younger while still developing their team after the failed experiment with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, and they are stocking up on picks for the future.
The Warriors were able to have a reliable two-way veteran playing at the top of his level and is in the final year of his contract. The Warriors are expecting a lot from Schroder this season as ESPN NBA insider indicated on Monday’s NBA Today.
Charania explained: “I’m told the Warriors expect Schroder to start alongside Steph Curry in the backcourt, being able to play point guard, alleviating the ball handling, playmaking, scoring around Steph Curry and Draymond Green.
“That’s a reason why they went out and got him and the reason why Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Steve Kerr all advocated for his acquisition.”
He also praised the aggressiveness of the Warriors to quickly agree the trade.
“On the first day of this trade window, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. goes out and acquires the guys he’s been targeting for the last couple of weeks.”
Dennis Schroder to the Warriors a win for both sides
The Warriors (14-11) are currently in eighth place of a stacked Western Conference tied with three other teams. The chase for the playoffs is continuing to be a game-by-game process, and it makes sense to move now.
Schroder is the perfect role player for the Warriors as he can create scoring opportunities for the big three in Curry, Green and Andrew Wiggins as well as playing great on the defensive side of the court. He is another solid presence at the top of the three-point arc for deep shooting opportunities.
Schroder has never been a part of a championship team in the NBA. That could change later this season if all goes to plan.
